About

The University maintains a digital television and radio service originating from satellite dishes and terrestrial antennas located on the roof of the Leonard Huxley building.

There are six satellite dish antennas each configured to receive a variety of television and radio services available free-to-air from the satellites at which they are directed. Local digital broadcast services are received over the air from transmitters on Black Mountain Tower.

The service is fully digital, and is reticulated using multicast IP over the University's Integrated Communications Network.

These services are viewable on televisions fitted with set-top-boxes in selected buildings throughout the University, most notably the Libraries, Student Halls and Colleges and specialist teaching and research areas.

Viewing of the TV service on a desktop computers is now available in many areas across campus. The TV service is a high bandwidth application and requires the latest network connections to be deployed. As the network is progressively upgraded, more areas will have the TV service deployed.

The current network is the result of a significant upgrade of the service which occurred June 2007. This upgraded included the migration to digital IP reticulation equipment as well as the replacement of satellite dishes damaged in the February 2007 hailstorm.

This service is the responsibility of Networks & Communications.
