Networks
The ANU networks service delivers networking and telecommunications applications and services to research, teaching and learning, administration and outreach functions of ANU, including external affiliates of the University. The networks service objective is to provide secure, reliable, needs-driven services, independent of location.
ANU cabling specifications outlines the installation, maintenance and removal of the structured cabling system for the ANU,including the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, removal and certification of an integrated structured cabling system to conform to the approved system.
Upkeep of data centres and network rooms involves both data centre and communications rooms standards to be followed. There are also guidelines for patching, access to communication cabinets, power supply (including uninterruptable power supplies), and standards regarding rubbish and construction work in the communications rooms.
Setting up a domain name service (DNS) entails a number of requirements, which include; naming requirements for Internet domain names, establishing 4LD domain names, an understanding of domain names outside the anu.edu.au domain, registering an ANU IP address, ANU nameservers, ANU NTP timeservers, and using ANU nameservers from off campus.
Network traffic statistics are also available to assist with measuring the amount and type of traffic on any particular network.
